Our client, The Inner City Trust, based in Derry
Northern Ireland wanted to build a Heritage centre near the famous
city walls at the top end of the town. Within that centre, they
wanted an outstanding show that would depict a true accurate and
unbiased story of Ireland and the Irish people.
By the time RMA Ltd was brought on board, half
the building had been erected. It formed the shape of a long thin
tall atrium. Not ideal for any track-based ride or auditorium show
format.
Three areas were created. The outer two were fitted
with 8 metre high scissor lifts. Mounted to the top of the first
lift was a turntable and on top of that was a motion base. A fully
themed Celtic time capsule was landed on top of this motion base.
This gave us the ability to move people between vertical areas as
well as opening up all the space surrounding the lift, which formed
natural micro-auditoriums. This first section covers the history
of the Irish people up to the present day.
The centre section effectively hung some 6 metres
in mid air and formed a bridge section between the two lifts. This
was literally floating in space. So when the visitor left their
Celtic capsule and walked through the air lock, they suddenly realised
that they were floating within a huge starfield. This section beamed
three children into space, one from Derry, one from Australia and
one from America. Our time lord Calgagh explains to them how they
were all descendants from Ireland.
The second lift, and the way back down, was fitted
with an acoustically sealed capsule that would take our visitors
back home accompanied by beautiful poetry and images of Ireland.
The show concludes with a 3 dimensional ghost of the White Dove
of peace, flying towards the audience.
This was without doubt, the most emotionally stirring
show weve had the pleasure of designing.
